You can use the Nike Plus SportBand system with (if you can it) or in their iPod nano. You do not have Nike shoes Plus - You can connect the sensor to the top of the regular and the system still works perfectly. This system is more or less a glorified pedometer. If you do not already have an iPod compatible (and can not find the SportBand) personally I would not recommend investing heavily in the system. It's much better to look for warning signs more specific and information from Garmin (205, 305, 405) instead. If you have an iPod and is just the sensor / receiver, which needs may be more affordable if you do not want "madness" in a precursor in the comparison, and is certainly better than nothing.
